President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, accepted an invitation from lawyer Zakaria Al-Ghoul to participate in a gathering at the Cultural Salon in Beirut.
Makhzoumi noted that he and the distinguished attendees, all members of Beirut’s community, held the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in high regard. He also highlighted the Kingdom’s significant efforts to support Lebanon and shield it from risks, particularly over the past year, when it provided the country with five diplomatic frameworks of support: beginning with the Jeddah Declaration, followed by the Gulf initiative, the New York meeting, the joint Saudi-Egyptian statement, and finally the joint Saudi-Qatari statement. Attendees noted that these frameworks constitute a Saudi and international safety net for Lebanon and a roadmap for helping the country overcome its crises.
Addressing the Beirut audience, Makhzoumi also emphasized the importance of collective pressure to ensure that the necessary reforms are implemented and an agreement is reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He described reforms as the gateway to restoring the international community’s confidence in Lebanon and rebuilding its relations with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states more broadly.
He further stated that, during his meetings, he had found that all countries were willing to help Lebanon, provided that fundamental reforms were undertaken—from electing a sovereign president to restore the proper functioning of political life, through to implementing serious reform plans.
In conclusion, Makhzoumi stressed the need for everyone to work together to support the people of Beirut in all areas, particularly healthcare and social services, while strengthening solidarity and rising above differences. He noted that the Makhzoumi Foundation continues to fulfill its responsibilities toward Beirut’s residents amid the absence of the state, the lack of essential services, and the harsh living conditions.
