President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, received a delegation from the Association of Islamic Charitable Projects at his office in downtown Beirut. The delegation was headed by MP Adnan Trabulsi and included Dr. Ahmad Dabbagh, Dr. Badr Al-Tabsh, and lawyer Fadi Ghazawi. Also present were Political Adviser Dr. Carol Zouein, Diplomatic Adviser and former Ambassador Dr. Bassam Naamani, Makhzoumi Foundation Director General Samer Al-Safah, and Marketing Director Marwan Sabban.

Both sides discussed the general situation in the country on the eve of the presidential election, with particular emphasis on the situation in Beirut.

Makhzoumi said the discussions addressed the 2022 budget, which had now become a fait accompli, particularly given the intense efforts to pass it because it was one of the International Monetary Fund’s conditions for finalizing an agreement with Lebanon. He reiterated his rejection of the budget, describing it as unrealistic and its expenditure and revenue figures as fictitious.

The two sides also discussed electing a president within the constitutional deadlines who would present a rescue program and possess the required qualifications to lead the country out of its crises. They further explored ways to unify the positions of Sunni MPs on the presidential election amid extremely serious economic and social conditions.

Regarding the capital, they emphasized the importance of bringing Beirut’s MPs together and developing plans to help revive the city, which is facing multiple crises. They stressed the need to work collectively as representatives of Beirut and all of Lebanon in the best interests of citizens, whether on issues related to healthcare, education, or living conditions.
