President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, launched the party’s 2022 electoral campaign team during a conference held at the Mövenpick Hotel.

Makhzoumi opened the conference by announcing the launch of the electoral campaign team. He stressed that Beirut was not lacking in leaders, describing the capital as a city that continually produces new leaders and noting that it had been the first to stand against all attempts to occupy and plunder the country. He strongly criticized Hezbollah’s policies, affirming that “we will not allow another May 7, another judicial May 7, or another security May 7.” He added that he was proud to represent Beirut.

Regarding the Taif Agreement, Makhzoumi affirmed that it was a very important document if genuinely implemented. However, he said that Syria, Hezbollah, and successive Sunni leaders had not wanted it to be implemented. He asked, “Who gave up the rights of the Sunnis in Beirut?” He pointed out that responsibility lay with successive prime ministers, who had been chosen first by Syria and subsequently by Hezbollah. He reiterated his rejection of Hezbollah’s practices, accusing the party of holding Lebanon hostage and pursuing foreign agendas, while stressing that the country’s relations with its Arab surroundings must be preserved.

Makhzoumi expressed his astonishment at the campaign being waged by the corrupt establishment against judicial investigator Judge Tarek Bitar, who, he said, was working to uncover the truth behind what he described as the world’s third-largest crime and to bring solace to the families of the victims and those injured in the Beirut Port explosion. He affirmed that they rejected Bitar’s dismissal and categorically opposed any bargaining over the investigation. He stressed that the truth must be uncovered and that they would not accept another “judicial May 7.”

Makhzoumi stated that the party’s program included plans to revive various sectors, particularly electricity and water, as well as vital sectors such as healthcare, education, and others. He noted that the party was in contact with three major electricity companies that were prepared to provide electricity at no cost. He also pointed out that the World Bank was prepared to provide $850 million to build an internal electricity distribution network that would generate revenue for the Treasury while easing the burden on citizens.

He called on citizens to participate in the elections to remove the corrupt political class and make room for new faces to bring about change.
