President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, received French Ambassador Anne Grillo at his office in downtown Beirut, in the presence of Political Advisor Dr. Carol Zouein. The ambassador was accompanied by Media Advisor Jean Heilbronn. They discussed the local, regional, and international situation.
Makhzoumi emphasized the depth and strength of Lebanese-French relations, renewing his gratitude to France for its continued support for Lebanon and for giving hope to the Lebanese people.
Makhzoumi said that the economic, financial, and social conditions continued to deteriorate. He warned against some political figures continuing to engage in what he described as political “indulgence” at a time when citizens were suffering from all forms of hardship and deprivation, including the lack of life’s most basic necessities. He called for the immediate formation of a rescue government composed of independent figures, stressing that it should be formed today rather than tomorrow.
He considered that the Lebanese people were paying the price for every delay, both financially and in terms of their health. He also pointed out that the political class that had governed the country for decades had prevented the success of the French initiative, which called for the formation of a reform-oriented government capable of restoring the international community’s confidence in Lebanon.
