President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, accompanied by Political Adviser Dr. Carol Zouein, met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale, in the presence of U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea. They discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region.
Following the meeting, Makhzoumi said that the discussion focused on the difficult circumstances Lebanon is experiencing. He expressed his gratitude for the United States’ continued support for Lebanon and its people, commending the humanitarian assistance provided by the U.S. to those affected by the Beirut Port explosion to help them cope with the aftermath of this disaster.
Makhzoumi stressed the importance of supporting the change demanded by the October 17 Revolution. He emphasized the need to shorten the parliamentary term from four years to three, noting that he had submitted a draft law to Parliament to this effect.
He further stressed that the next government must be composed of genuinely independent figures from outside the corrupt political establishment and must oversee the parliamentary elections. Makhzoumi noted that the solution lies in changing the system of corruption that has governed Lebanon for decades and brought the country to its current predicament.
