A delegation comprising President of the National Dialogue Party and MP Fouad Makhzoumi, member of the Supreme Islamic Sharia Council Kamel Dimyati, and Deputy Chairman of the Zakat Fund and Director General of the Makhzoumi Foundation Samer Al-Safah visited Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian at Dar Al-Fatwa.
The delegation members congratulated His Eminence on his return from the Hajj pilgrimage to the Holy House of God. Discussions covered the local, regional, and international situations amid the rapidly unfolding and serious developments in the region.
The delegation stressed the need to avoid risking Lebanon’s involvement in the ongoing regional conflicts by attempting to support any particular side, warning that the consequences could mirror those of the Gaza support front, which devastated the country and resulted in significant human and material losses. They also emphasized that the government must implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by withdrawing all unauthorized weapons and ensuring that arms are held exclusively by the state and its security institutions, particularly with regard to Hezbollah’s weapons and Palestinian weapons present in the refugee camps.
The delegation also discussed the economic situation with His Eminence and the need to begin implementing the required reforms. They expressed hope that all parties would demonstrate genuine and serious commitment to cooperation and coordination in order to help Lebanon and its people overcome the crises they are facing.
