President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, hosted a luncheon at his residence in honor of U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea, in the presence of Political Adviser Dr. Carol Zouein.

Welcoming the U.S. Ambassador, Makhzoumi said that discussions addressed the general situation and the upcoming pivotal milestones, foremost among them the presidential election, stressing that it must take place within the constitutional deadline. He once again commended the joint U.S.-French-Saudi statement, which provided a roadmap and a path toward saving Lebanon. He also emphasized the need to form a government.

Makhzoumi said that particular focus was placed on maritime border demarcation, describing it as a vital issue for Lebanon. He stressed that the time had come for this matter to be brought to a conclusion, particularly given that these resources represent the country’s only remaining economic asset. He underscored that extracting oil and gas is essential to revitalizing the economy and helping rescue the country from the economic, financial, and living crises it is facing. He added that this would help transform Lebanon from a rentier economy into a development-oriented country with a productive economy.

Furthermore, Makhzoumi reiterated that he and his colleagues in the new Parliament, whether members of the Tajaddod Bloc or other MPs seeking change, would spare no effort to implement the reforms required by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and develop a comprehensive reform and recovery plan that would gradually alleviate the suffering and crises endured by the Lebanese people.

He thanked Ambassador Shea for her positive role in Lebanon and expressed hope that the international community would regain its confidence in the country.
