MP Fouad Makhzoumi and MP Bilal Hashimi met with Caretaker Minister of Education Abbas Halabi to discuss the file concerning the full-time appointment of professors at the Lebanese University, including the proposed numbers according to sectarian affiliation, geographical regions, and faculty branches.
Halabi assured the two MPs that he was giving the matter the necessary attention in order to achieve positive results. Makhzoumi and Hashimi, for their part, stressed the importance of applying the principles of fairness and balance in approving the file, in the best interests of the university and the country. The two MPs called for professors who were excluded in 2014 to be given priority in the process, and for everyone to receive their rightful entitlements without prejudice, favoritism, or quota-based allocations. They also called for greater efforts to be made to approve the file as soon as possible.
The Minister of Education, in turn, pledged to conduct a thorough review of the full-time appointment file from all relevant aspects, with a view to resolving the matter in a fair, equitable, and balanced manner for all.
Halabi also briefed MPs Makhzoumi and Hashimi on the overall situation in the education sector and the working conditions of educational institutions amid the current circumstances, particularly in southern Lebanon.
Makhzoumi and Hashimi visited Minister Halabi at his office at the Ministry of Education. The meeting was attended by his advisers, Dr. Nader Hadifeh and Mr. Albert Chamoun.
