MP Fouad Makhzoumi, President of the National Dialogue Party, visited Sheikh Sami Abi Al-Muna, Head of the Druze Unitarian Community, at the Community’s headquarters in Beirut. He was accompanied by diplomatic adviser and former Ambassador Dr. Bassam al-Naamani; Dr. Duraid Oweidat, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Dialogue Party; Mr. Kamel Damiati, member of the Higher Islamic Sharia Council; Mr. Samer al-Safah, Director General of the Makhzoumi Foundation; and lawyer Hassan Kashli. They discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region.

Following the meeting, Makhzoumi said the visit was intended to extend his congratulations to His Eminence on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan. He expressed his hope that this year would bring goodness, blessings, and peace to Lebanon and its people. He prayed for the protection of the Palestinian people and southern Lebanon, which is currently experiencing a state of war, even if geographically limited. He called on all parties to cooperate to protect Lebanon and spare it regional wars and conflicts, reiterating the need to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 in full and in all its provisions.

Makhzoumi and His Eminence also discussed domestic issues. Both agreed on the need to restore the proper functioning of state institutions by electing a President of the Republic, forming a legitimate government, and implementing the necessary reforms to help the country overcome its crises. Makhzoumi renewed his support for the National Moderation Bloc’s initiative, particularly because it is a Lebanese-led initiative advanced by Lebanese MPs within Parliament and is consistent with the proposals put forward by the five-member committee.
