Following a meeting between Beirut MPs, political forces, and His Excellency the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, discussions focused on the recent serious financial and administrative irregularities at Beirut Municipality.

During the meeting, attendees presented the official complaint submitted by Beirut MPs to the Financial Public Prosecutor, Judge Maher Chaito. The complaint is based on official information and documents issued by Beirut Municipality and the Governor of Beirut. These documents revealed serious financial and administrative violations, prompting the MPs to fulfill their national and oversight responsibilities and take the necessary legal steps.

In this context, a financial investigation was launched into a municipal employee under Decision No. 835/B, dated October 24, 2025, following the identification of serious suspicions of financial and administrative misconduct.

The findings to date are deeply concerning. Funds and compensation payments were disbursed without any legal basis, financial transactions were processed before the required approvals had been obtained, and clear violations of administrative and financial authority were identified.

Accordingly, the MPs called for a comprehensive forensic investigation covering all current and former financial and administrative employees of Beirut Municipality. They also called for the Court of Audit, the Central Inspection Board, and the Ministry of Interior to be formally contacted to obtain all documents and records related to the case.

The MPs stressed that this action does not target any particular individual. Rather, it is driven by a commitment to protecting Beirut and its public funds, upholding transparency and accountability in municipal governance, exposing those responsible for corruption, and referring them to the judiciary.

Accountability is not persecution; it is a national duty and a cornerstone of any genuine reform.

Beirut and its residents deserve clean, effective administration that serves their needs—not one shrouded in opacity and mismanagement.

For this reason, the MPs are committed to pursuing this matter to its conclusion and continuing to press for the enforcement of the law, while preventing any interference or attempts to undermine the course of justice.

The MPs also emphasized the need to scrutinize tender specifications, simplify administrative procedures to accelerate projects awaited by residents, and prevent any corrupt network from obstructing reform.

Our ultimate goal is to transform Beirut Municipality into a modern, digital, and transparent institution that serves the capital’s residents and safeguards their dignity and rights.

In conclusion, the MPs delivered a clear message:

We will not allow Beirut Municipality to remain hostage to chaos and mismanagement.

We are here to declare that the era of tolerating the misuse of public funds is over, and the era of transparency and accountability has begun.

Beirut deserves better—and we will remain faithful to this responsibility until the very end.

Thank you.
