President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, received Swiss Ambassador to Lebanon Marion Weichelt at his office in downtown Beirut, in the presence of Political Adviser Carol Zouein. They discussed the situation in Lebanon and the region.

Following the meeting, Makhzoumi stressed the importance of strengthening Lebanese-Swiss relations across various fields.

Makhzoumi reiterated the need for the government to commit to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the withdrawal of unauthorized weapons and the exclusive control of arms by the Lebanese state. He considered President Joseph Aoun’s address on Army Day to be as clear on this matter as his inaugural address, reflecting Lebanon’s and the Lebanese people’s need to entrust the Army alone with safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and security.

Makhzoumi and the Ambassador also discussed the economic situation and the launch of the required reforms. He expressed hope that the incoming government would demonstrate genuine and serious intentions to make every effort to help Lebanon and its people overcome the crises they are enduring.
