President of the National Dialogue Party and MP Fouad Makhzoumi, accompanied by a number of Beirut MPs, met with Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud and Beirut Municipal Council President Ibrahim Zaidan.

Following the meeting, Makhzoumi said:

“We conducted an assessment of the Municipal Council’s work from the time it was elected until today. It was an open and frank discussion, during which we established a list of priorities outlining what is required of Beirut’s MPs to support the Municipal Council and the Governorate.

“We believe that the partnership currently in place between the Governor and the Municipal Council is constructive, and we look forward to the government and the Ministry of Interior becoming involved in this process.

“Tomorrow, we will visit Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam to present our vision in this regard, in the interest of our people and the residents of Beirut, the capital. We will also meet with Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar to work toward resolving outstanding issues and addressing the crises facing the capital’s residents, as well as discussing the Municipal Council’s role in resolving them.

“We have seen full cooperation between the Governor and the Municipal Council. As MPs representing Beirut, we stand by them, support them, and work alongside them, placing the interests of Beirut and its residents above all other considerations.”
