President of the National Dialogue Party and MP Fouad Makhzoumi visited Prime Minister Judge Nawaf Salam at the Grand Serail, where they discussed the general situation in Lebanon, the latest local and regional developments, and a number of national and development-related issues.
Makhzoumi expressed his full support for President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and the government in implementing the framework agreement. He stressed that this agreement represents the most realistic available path for Lebanon to break out of the cycle of war and instability, reclaim its sovereignty, and pave the way for a new phase of security, reconstruction, and economic recovery.
He emphasized that ensuring that weapons remain exclusively in the hands of the state is neither a political slogan nor a provision that can be postponed, but rather a fundamental pillar of statehood and the restoration of sovereignty. He underscored that the Lebanese Armed Forces must be the sole authority responsible for bearing arms and maintaining security throughout Lebanese territory, alongside a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also affirmed that Lebanon’s national interests must be the sole guiding principle behind its national decisions, and that decisions concerning peace and war, as well as security and strategic policy, must be exclusively Lebanese and made by Lebanon’s constitutional institutions.
The meeting also addressed the situation in Beirut and the challenges and crises facing its residents, particularly in the electricity and water sectors, including frequent service interruptions. Makhzoumi stressed the need to give the capital and its residents the priority they deserve and to work with state institutions, the municipality, and relevant authorities to develop practical and sustainable solutions to these crises.
