President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, continued his meetings in Washington, accompanied by Political Adviser Carol Zouein, holding discussions with a number of senior officials. Among those he met were U.S. Representatives Darrell Issa and Darin LaHood; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Ethan Goldrich; Democratic Senator Bob Menendez; former Ambassador Elizabeth Richard, the State Department’s Coordinator for Counterterrorism; former U.S. Assistant Secretaries of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and David Schenker; Nadine Zaatar, Head of the Economic Unit at the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs; Lebanon’s Chargé d’Affaires in Washington, Wael Hashem; and the diplomatic team at the Lebanese Embassy.
Makhzoumi said he discussed the general situation in Lebanon with the officials. The discussions focused on the presidential election and the need to hold it within the constitutional deadlines. Emphasis was also placed on the priority of implementing the reforms required by the International Monetary Fund, given their strategic importance in setting Lebanon on the path to recovery. The discussions also addressed the need for a comprehensive reform and recovery plan that would gradually alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people and help resolve the crises they face. The latest developments concerning maritime border demarcation were also discussed.
It is worth noting that Makhzoumi delivered two lectures at the International Republican Institute (IRI), focusing on the situation in Lebanon and ways to help the country overcome its crises.
