President of the National Dialogue Party and MP Fouad Makhzoumi received Danish Ambassador to Lebanon Christopher Vivek at his office in downtown Beirut, in the presence of Political Adviser Dr. Carol Zouein. They discussed local, regional, and international affairs, as well as current political and security developments.
During the meeting, Makhzoumi emphasized the importance of Lebanese-Danish relations and the need to strengthen and expand cooperation between the two countries across political, economic, developmental, and humanitarian fields, in a manner that serves their mutual interests and helps support Lebanon in the coming phase.
The discussions addressed the latest developments related to the ceasefire agreement and efforts to consolidate stability. Makhzoumi said he was placing his hopes in the talks taking place in Washington over the coming three days, expressing his support for the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister in pursuing this national course. He described it as a genuine opportunity to set Lebanon on the path toward peace and lasting stability.
Makhzoumi stressed that rebuilding the South, enabling residents to return to their villages, securing a full Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory, and restoring the confidence of the Arab and international communities remain fundamental objectives. Achieving these goals requires extending the full sovereignty of the Lebanese state throughout its territory, strengthening legitimate institutions, and addressing the issue of weapons outside state authority through a clear vision that ensures weapons remain exclusively in the hands of the state, with the state holding sole authority over decisions of war and peace.
Makhzoumi also noted that he and several fellow MPs had submitted a parliamentary petition calling on the government to prepare a comprehensive national compensation dossier. This would include documenting war-related damage, assessing losses in accordance with international standards, and establishing a specialized national committee to oversee the process. The petition also calls for Lebanon to be included among the affected parties eligible for any international compensation or settlement arrangements, or frozen Iranian funds that may be allocated for this purpose.
