President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, hosted a dinner at his residence in honor of Algerian Foreign Minister and former UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi and Saudi Ambassador Walid Al-Bukhari. The dinner was attended by the Grand Mufti of the Republic, His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian; a number of fellow MPs; Political Adviser Carol Zouein; and members of MP Makhzoumi’s team.
In his address, Makhzoumi welcomed the guests and reaffirmed that the Taif Agreement serves as Lebanon’s constitution. He noted that it brought the civil war to an end and rebuilt state institutions, emphasizing that it has been, and will remain, the best guarantee for Lebanon, the protection of the National Pact, and peaceful coexistence.
Makhzoumi renewed his call for the implementation of all the provisions of the Taif Agreement and for embarking on the process of building a state governed by the rule of law, upholding legitimacy, and preserving Lebanon’s ties with its Arab surroundings. He stated that any amendments should only be considered after the agreement has been implemented and solely in response to national needs.
