MP Fouad Makhzoumi received Japan’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Takeshi Okubo, at his office in downtown Beirut. They discussed the situation in Lebanon and the region.

Makhzoumi noted that their discussions covered the situation in Lebanon and escalating regional and international conflicts, from whose repercussions Lebanon must remain shielded. He thanked Japan for its continued interest in Lebanon.

He added that Lebanon remains a bridge between East and West and a channel for communication. He stressed the importance of maintaining strong relations between Lebanon and Japan and exploring ways to strengthen them, particularly in technology, light industry, and technical fields.

Government Performance and the October 17 Uprising

Makhzoumi stressed that Lebanon was going through an extremely difficult period requiring considerable efforts from everyone. He said his confidence in the government would depend on the clarity of its programme and action plan.

He called on the government to safeguard the rights of citizens who had been protesting since October 17.

He also reiterated his rejection of rioting and attacks on public and private property, noting that some were seeking to tarnish the image of the uprising and undermine the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people over nearly 100 days.
