President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, received Argentina’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mauricio Alice, at his office in downtown Beirut. They discussed the situation in Lebanon and the region.
Following the meeting, Makhzoumi stressed the need to strengthen economic cooperation and trade between Lebanon and Argentina, which is home to one of the largest Lebanese expatriate communities in the world.
Government Formation and the Situation in Beirut
Makhzoumi reiterated his call for the swift formation of a rescue government, expressing regret over the ongoing disputes among political leaders over the allocation of government posts and shares of power.
He held the political establishment responsible for what was happening on the streets, particularly in Beirut, emphasizing that the caretaker government’s fulfilment of its duties and its defence of people’s rights were essential to protecting Beirut and its residents.
He warned of the risk of the situation spiralling out of control and of security chaos resulting from political obstinacy and a lack of sound judgment in governing the country.
“Officials must rise to meet the aspirations of the young people who have been protesting since October 17, work to fulfil their ambitions, and move swiftly to address the widespread financial, economic, and living-condition crises,” he said.
