President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, visited Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri at Ain al-Tineh. They discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region.

Makhzoumi noted that a positive atmosphere had emerged following Speaker Berri’s meeting with the ambassadors of the Quintet Committee. He said the Lebanese people were beginning to feel hopeful that the country might overcome the negative climate that had prevailed for approximately a year and a half because of the presidential vacuum.

“The positive atmosphere we observed, which the Speaker reaffirmed to us today, suggests that it may be possible to overcome the impasse we are facing,” Makhzoumi said. He stressed that without the proper functioning of state institutions, it would be impossible to implement reform projects in the country’s interest. He congratulated Speaker Berri on fostering this positive atmosphere and wished him success.

Makhzoumi considered the signing of the budget and its submission to the government, despite all the difficulties it had encountered, a step in the right direction. He emphasized that Lebanese citizens no longer want words alone, but rather concrete action and tangible measures to improve social, healthcare, and economic conditions and attract investment.

Makhzoumi also briefed Speaker Berri on his upcoming visit to the United Kingdom later this month, following an official invitation. He will be accompanied by a group of MPs to discuss the financial reforms required to restore confidence in Lebanon. He noted that Parliament is the only functioning constitutional institution remaining and stressed the need to work through it to steer the country toward safety and stability.
