MP Fouad Makhzoumi, President of the National Dialogue Party, received Joanna Wronecka, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, at his office in downtown Beirut, in the presence of Political Adviser Carol Zouein. They discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region.

Makhzoumi said their discussions addressed the situation in Gaza and southern Lebanon. He stressed the need to put an end to the ongoing confrontations in the south, whose repercussions and consequences can only be contained through the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 in all its provisions, as well as through rallying around the security institutions, particularly the Lebanese Army.

Makhzoumi and Wronecka also discussed several domestic issues, foremost among them the presidential elections. He reiterated the need to hold them as soon as possible. They also addressed the municipal elections, which Makhzoumi opposed postponing, except in certain areas of southern Lebanon where security conditions do not permit the elections to be held.
