President of the National Dialogue Party, MP Fouad Makhzoumi, received British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell at his office in downtown Beirut, in the presence of political adviser Ms. Carol Zouein. They discussed the situation in Lebanon and the region, particularly developments in Gaza and their repercussions for southern Lebanon.
Makhzoumi highlighted the longstanding historical ties between Lebanon and the United Kingdom and expressed his gratitude to the UK, which has consistently supported Lebanon, its army, and its military institutions, in addition to providing assistance to address the security, social, and economic challenges facing the country.
Makhzoumi also reiterated the need to keep Lebanon out of military conflicts and prevent it from being drawn into any battle, while ensuring the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 by all parties.
He also discussed with the ambassador the presidential election, stressing that it has become essential to complete this constitutional milestone as a step toward forming an effective government capable of beginning the implementation of the required reforms and bringing Lebanon out of the political paralysis caused by the continued disruption of state institutions.
