President of National Dialogue Party and MP Fouad Makhzoumi visited His Excellency President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace, accompanied by Political Adviser Dr. Carol Zouein. The meeting featured frank and constructive discussions on a number of key national issues.
Following the meeting, Makhzoumi said:
“I congratulated His Excellency on the appointment of Ambassador Simon Karam, in recognition of his diplomatic expertise and distinguished record of national service. I consider this appointment a source of strength for Lebanon in conducting negotiations and safeguarding its national interests at this critical juncture.
“I also congratulated His Excellency on signing the maritime boundary delimitation agreement with the Republic of Cyprus, describing it as an important sovereign step that strengthens Lebanon’s rights and opens up promising economic opportunities. I emphasized the need to complete the delimitation of land and maritime borders with all relevant countries, particularly Syria and Israel.
“Makhzoumi stressed that the highest priority remains completing the disarmament of all militias south of the Litani River before the end of the year, while immediately beginning the disarmament process across all Lebanese territory according to a clear timetable. This would ensure that weapons remain exclusively in the hands of the state and reaffirm the exclusive role of the Lebanese Army and legitimate security forces.
“The importance of accelerating political, economic, and institutional reforms was also underscored as essential to restoring confidence and securing international support for Lebanon.
“In conclusion, Makhzoumi reiterated his support for the President’s efforts to strengthen state institutions, consolidate sovereignty, and lead Lebanon toward stability and recovery.”
